Slips and Trips at Work
Preventing slips and trips in the workplace
Pedestrian slipping and tripping is the commonest cause of
injuries in UK workplaces. In 2007/2008 over 10,900 people suffered
major injury from slips and trips on the level.
Typical causes are from:- surfaces and structures such as
floors, pavements, steps and stairs, wet or contaminated floors and
materials such as cables, furniture and boxes.
These accidents can be prevented by simple measures such as
keeping floors and pavements free from holes, wet contamination and
objects. We are all responsible for our health and safety and
should report any long term issues to our employers, whilst taking
action where we can.
Environmental Health Officers actively promote the reduction in
slip and trip accidents throughout health and safety visits to
premises in the District. However this is an area that needs
vigilance at all times and is always targeted during our health and
safety inspections.
