Health and Safety Inspections
All high and intermediate risk health and safety premises in the
District for which Rochford District Council is the Enforcing
Authority are inspected on a risk based, rolling programme in
accordance with circular guidance. This guidance is issued by the
Health and Safety Executive/Local Authorities Enforcement Liaison
Committee (HELA). This guidance is available to view via the
Related Links section.
Health and safety inspections concentrate on the priority topics
of workplace transport; slips, trips & falls; falls from
height, musculoskeletal disorders; stress and asbestos. In addition
any specific hazards to the business are considered.
As a result of the inspection, each premises is assessed in
terms of safety and health risks and hazards, welfare provision,
public risk and overall confidence in management. In addition a
score is added which relates to the type of premises.
To reduce the burdens on small business, all medium and low risk
health and safety premises are sent a self inspection
questionnaire, in place of a formal inspection. This is sent out on
a risk based rolling programme. The questionnaire concerns the
priority topics of workplace transport, slips and trips, falls from
height and musculoskeletal disorders. The information received upon
return of the questionnaire is used to determine any further advice
or visits required.
