Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS)
Rochford District Council has introduced the FHRS. This is
a national scheme, developed by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in
partnership with local authorities, providing information on food
hygiene standards to help people choose where to eat out or shop
for food.
Food safety officers inspect businesses to check that their
hygiene standards meet legal requirements. The hygiene standards
found at these inspections will be rated on a scale ranging from
zero at the bottom (which means ‘urgent improvement necessary’) to
a top rating of five (‘very good’).
These ratings are available for anyone to view on the FSA
website, found in related links below and the food business
will be given a sticker and certificate and encouraged to display
these at the entrance to their premises. This means that their
customers can easily see them and decide if they want to go in.
The FSA website has more information about the FHRS including,
how ratings are calculated, what the different ratings mean, how
often a business will be given a new rating and the rerating and
appeal provisions.
The FHRS is intended to replace all the different schemes (knows
as Scores on the Doors) currently being used across the country and
provide consumers with a single, easy to understand scheme. You can
find out more about the different local schemes across the UK and
whether one is running in other areas by clicking on the link
below.
Scheme disclaimer
The food hygiene rating scheme is not an endorsement of current
standards but merely reflects the rating given at the time of their
inspection.
Following an inspection it may take up to 28 days for the new
rating to appear on the website.
The rating does not reflect the quality of food or the standard
of service provided to customers.
